Does a higher speed rating make ordinary road driving safer?

No. The tyre must be compatible with the vehicle's specification, and safe driving still depends on conditions, speed, pressure, tread and vehicle condition.

Do wider tyres always give more grip?

There is no universal answer. Fitment, tyre design, pressure, vehicle, road surface and weather all matter. Use approved vehicle specifications rather than appearance alone.

Can I use performance tyres all year?

That depends on the exact vehicle, tyre, climate and driving. Start with approved specifications and the conditions you actually face.
