What Makes a Great Performance Tyre
Dry Grip
Performance tyres use softer, stickier compounds with larger contact patches for maximum traction. Look for tyres with high silica content and asymmetric tread patterns that maximise rubber-to-road contact in corners.
Wet Performance
The best performance tyres don't sacrifice wet grip for dry speed. Models like the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and Continental SportContact 7 deliver exceptional wet braking. Critical for NZ's unpredictable weather.
Speed Rating
Performance tyres carry higher speed ratings — W (270 km/h), Y (300 km/h), or (Y) (300+ km/h). Always match or exceed your vehicle's OE speed rating. Higher ratings mean the tyre is built to handle more heat and stress.
